January/February 2015 Grade 5 News

Congratulations go out to Mr. and Mrs. Stengler on the arrival of their baby girl, Mya Elizabeth.

She arrived January 7th at 10:39pm, weighing in at 8lbs 1oz, and measuring in at 20 inches in length. We have had a wonderful and busy start to our New Year.

Students are honing in their basketball skills and will be attending both curling and skating in the next few weeks.

In art, we are working with oil pastels and blending techniques including layering and light and shadow.

We continue to work on sentence and paragraph writing as well as practice with capitalization, punctuation and spelling.

Electromagnets and mechanisms using electricity will be our focus over the next few weeks in science.

In Math, we are starting to look at fractions and decimals and how they are frequently used in our world.

We are going back in time, to appreciate the formation and beginning stages of Canadian history in Social Studies.

Together, we are looking at the Canadian food guide, to develop a sense of nutrition. We are continuing to learn about what is in our food and what our bodies need for it to grow.
